[EN] Setting Up Zero Touch Deployment for macOS

Zero Touch Deployment is a highly useful tool for macOS users. It allows for automatic configuration of a new device without the need for manual MDM installation. In this article, we will explain how you can set up Zero Touch Deployment for macOS yourself.

Step 1: Prerequisites

Before you begin :

  1. ensure you have access to your FleetDM instance

  2. ensure you have access to your ABM (Apple Business Manager) account

  3. ensure your ABM account is validated

Step 2: Link your Apple Business Manager to FleetDM

To enable Zero-Touch Deployment, you need to link your Apple Business Manager (ABM) account to a Mobile Device Management (MDM) service, such as FleetDM.

  1. Download the ABM certificate and key in your FleetDM Portal

    • Navigate to Settings > Integrations > Automatic Enrolment > Apple Business Manager

    • Or append this to your FleetDM domain: /settings/integrations/automatic-enrollment

  2. Login to ABM on https://business.apple.com/

    • Create MDM server Account > Settings > Add MDM server

      • Name : FleetDM

      • Allow this MDM Server to release devices : Yes

      • Upload .crt file and save

      • Download the abm token .p7m

  3. Login to your FleetDM portal, and upload the .p7m token under Settings > Integrations > Automatic Enrolment > Apple Business Manager

Step 3: Finish configuring Apple Business Manager

This step ensures that all new & existing devices will be automatically managed by FleetDM.

  1. Change default assignment for new devices: On Apple ABM > Settings > MDM Server Assignment, set default assignment to FleetDM for at least Macs

  2. Migrate all existing devices to new Fleet MDM server:

    • Navigate to Devices > All devices > Edit MDM server assignment

    • Select "Assign to Fleetdm"

Step 4: Configure Purchasing

This step ensures that when we sell you devices, we can automatically add them to your Apple Business Manager.

  1. Connect to ABM https://business.apple.com/

  2. Add the following "Reseller ID" under Your MDM Servers > Customer Numbers > edit

    • Reseller Number / 7E9BFD0
